Electric Iced Latte

A cafe-counter drink built around an electric blue pour, best made cold in milk, coconut, oat, or other pale bases.

Cold drinks

Build it like a signature drink, not a supplement.

Make a vivid blue iced latte with phycocyanin powder from spirulina. Built for cafes, menu specials, and photogenic cold drinks.

Method

  1. 1Disperse the powder in a small amount of cold water until smooth.
  2. 2Build the latte over ice with milk, coconut milk, oat milk, or a pale house base.
  3. 3Add the blue dispersion late so the colour stays bright in the glass.
  4. 4Scale the final dose by batch weight once the shade matches the menu item.

Colour Notes

  • Paler bases show the cleanest blue.
  • Coffee, cocoa, caramel, and toasted syrups push the colour darker.
  • Citrus and other acidic components move the shade toward teal.

FAQ

Will coffee make the drink look muddy?

It can. Espresso and roasted syrups darken blue spirulina colour, so the cleaner move is to put the blue into the milk layer and keep the coffee layer separate.

Does it change the flavour of a latte?

At normal colour doses it is usually used for visual impact, not flavour. Stronger doses can bring a mild algae note, so pale flavoured bases work best.
